Using IP to View WebSite

This morning I was assigned a very simple task to upload a site and then check it, for this my manager gives me a host name as IP address with user name and password. As I mission at first look it was quite simple to me, I made a connection and upload whole website, now I came to check the website, here I got stuck with URL http://ipaddress/myfolder/ , the site is not working not only working its redirect me to another website then I realize that I am making some mistake over here and I’ll start searching… . After a long while I got solution that always use ~user name with IP address like below :

http://ipaddress/~username/myfolder/

Remember the user name is same as your hosting company provide user name to login your control panel.
